Thomas,

Thank you for posting your comment about my interview with Dr. Norman Doidge.

Yes, he actually did say "wobblers," but that is not a technical term. (In his book Dr. Doidge says that the patients call themselves Wobblers.)I don't know if the condition has an official name. It is definitely not a spinal disease. Nor is it related to alcohol. The condition he was describing is a dysfunction of the vestibular system, what laypeople often call the "inner ear." In other words, the semicircular canals of the vestibular system seem to have been damaged by the antibiotic gentamycin.

I hope that helps.

By the way, for some reason your comment ended up on my less traveled combined blog. I am sure others may have the same question, so if you get a chance can you post your question in the Discussion Forum?

I suggest going to http://www.docartemis.com/cgi-bin/forum.cgi?fid=09, which is the area for discussing specific episodes. Then start a new thread, perhaps entitled, "A question about the wobblers in episode 26."

Thanks again for listening and for taking the time to give me feedback.

Dear Dr. Ginger Campbell.

In your interview with Norman Doidge he was, among others, talking about some balance disorder. Unfortenatelly I couldn't get what the actual dysfunktion was. First I thought he was calling it "wobbler" but that seams to be something different (spinal disease on animals mainly). More detail is much apprechiated!

Thanks,
Thomas.
