A Little More About Me:

I was born in Seattle, Washington and grew up in Huntsville, Alabama. My husband, Dennis Smith, and I moved to Birmingham, AL in 1977 and we have lived in Pelham, AL since 1986.

After earning two degrees in engineering, I went to medical school (University of Alabama Class of 1984). I have worked as an emergency physician since 1992, but my long-time dream has been to work in a field that allows more creativity. I have always enjoyed writing, but since I began podcasting in 2006, it has given me an outlet both for my creativity and my enjoyment of sharing ideas with others.

Since its launch in December of 2006 Books and Ideas© has evolved from the place where I put whatever doesn’t fit into the Brain Science Podcast to an interview show in the style of Fresh Air™. Early on I talked about a wide variety of topics including history, philosophy, and even Harry Potter. An on-going focus is the promotion of science over pseudoscience. Click here to learn more.

In 2008 I launched SCIENCEPODCASTERS.ORG. This unique website is a group blog that is open to any science podcaster willing to post a brief description when a new episode is posted. This allows people to find information about a variety of shows in one place and allows smaller podcasters to have more search engine visibility than they could generate alone.
