Show Notes for Brain Science Podcast #19: Gut Feelings

This episode is a discussion of Gut Feelings: The Intelligence of the Unconscious (2007) by Gerd Gigerenzer

Dr. Gigerenzer argues that unconscious decision-making or intuition is actually based on the use of hueristics (rules of thumb) that can be explored, and even brought into awareness. In this episode I discuss his basic arguments with an emphasis on the differences between intuitive reasoning and formal logic. Then we explore some examples including the application of these ideas to more controversial areas like morality and social instincts.

Some of his ideas are provocative and I hope you will discuss them on the Brain Science Podcast Discussion Forum.

hi Ginger, all

just to infor you that link for episode 19 “Gut Feelings” is not working (on the website and in my rss feed )…

Can someone reading this send me the link?

oh and amazing podcasts you have… i listen it when going to work (in holland biking 1h to work is usuall thing).
Pitty i don’t have time to participate in forums but i did atleast audiosurvey & voting :)

greeting from rainy Nederlands,

Branko

p.s.

- btw. once you said you have audio problems ..e.g. low quality or low volume. i do mind low volume as that is minimum req. to listen on bussy road…,so i use a tool to amplify mp3 files/podcasts before putting them on mp3 player , let me know if you need it. It has also some pro things like noise filters .. but i don’t use it.

- i wish i could disable this numerious popups jumping on each link of your webage…

Ginger-Thanks for the podcast but wish I could listen to Gut Feelings.

..sitting in my yard up on a mountain in Big Sur.Just got back from China where apparently the government has made it very difficult to download from US by making internet very slow. 6 months ago in my hotel room internet speed was 10x as fast than last week.

Anyhow I was looking forward to getting home to hear this podcast along with Blakeslee only to get here and find the link not working.
I can go back to books but nice occasionally to have on my ipod. Thanks, Benj
