Mark Skoog, team director for the Automatic Collision Avoidance Technology Fighter Risk Reduction Program (ACAT FRRP) at the NASA Dryden Flight Research Center, and David “Nils” Larsen and Kevin Prosser, project research pilots, discussed a software-based technology that has demonstrated a 98 percent effectiveness rate at eliminating aircraft crashes into the ground. This leading edge safety technology is about to begin its final test and evaluation stage prior to transitioning to production aircraft in the Department of Defense. ACAT FRRP is part of a tri-service effort including the Office of the Secretary of Defense, Air Force Research Laboratory, and NASA.
