The MedicCast
In suspecting toxicological cause for a patient’s illness, EMS providers often inspect the patient’s home for empty pill bottles or chemical containers to find the possible substance that might have been ingested. In cases where such evidence is unavailable, careful history taking and assessment of the signs and symptoms presented by the patient would be key to identification of the substance. In this week’s episode of the MedicCast podcast for EMT’s, paramedics and EMS students, host Jamie Davies does another tox tidbit segment with Lisa Booze of the Maryland Poison Center where they talk about toxic syndromes, otherwise known as toxidromes. The discussion includes the types of toxidromes commonly seen and how to recognize these toxidromes. The show also includes EMS in the news and tip links for follow up and further review.
